Interview with GDSO

Ahead of this year's Sustainability in Tires 2025, we spoke with Riccardo Giovannotti, Secretary General at GDSO, to get a sneak peek of what we can expect from his presentation on “Empowering sustainability in the tyre industry through data-driven collaboration” Here's what he had to say…

Q1. Your topic will be “Empowering sustainability in the tyre industry through data-driven collaboration” this year, can you give us a snapshot of what delegates will hear? And why is it important for others in the industry to hear this message?

The delegates will discover what the tyre industry is preparing in the field of data sharing to enable sustainability and circularity use cases involving key stakeholders along the tyre value chain cradle-to-grave.
This activity represents the pinnacle of the data sharing state of art beyond the tyre and automotive industry, therefore setting very high the stake of tyre industry ambition and commitment to support better tyre reuse, retreading and recycling.
GDSO is defining the standards for data sharing while shaping the IT Service to make it real, under the proper Governance, Security and Trust.

Q2. In the sustainable context, what do you think are the key challenges facing the industry?

Identification at item level and traceability from manufacturing till each tyre end of life. GDSO services are defining the process to leverage on data sharing to allow:
  • Database quality improvement by storing events’ data
  • Tyre design and quality improvement thanks to statistics information
  • Improved casing diagnostics,
  • operations efficiency optimizations, enhanced working conditions
  • Automated sorting, concentrate human operation on high added value checks
  • Better sorting, leading to increased number of tyres reused (higher number of potential pair)
  • Higher valorization of feedstock for recycling (more homogeneous thanks to data)

Q3. As the inaugural conference in the tire industry, what aspects of Sustainability in Tires are you most excited to participate in?

Interested to see concrete solutions under development or recently released, while discovering more about global and local trends / needs to turn them into collaboration opportunities.
Discuss about the AI and its implementation in tyre technology, networking with key tyre industry leaders.
